Every May 12, Talca celebrates its founding anniversary, marking the refounding of the Villa de San Agustín de Talca in 1742 by order of Governor José Antonio Manso de Velasco. The town was granted the title of "City" in 1796, under the government of Ambrosio O'Higgins. The Municipality usually organizes cultural activities and tributes to the city's founders.

On September 18 and 19, Talca celebrates Chile's national holidays along with the rest of the country, with fondas and ramadas (festive food and dance tents) and traditional activities around town. It's a great time to visit restaurants and places serving traditional food.
